Law firm software migration in Australia — migrate from FilePro or LawMaster.

Legal software migration is not a weekend CSV upload for most firms: trust balances, matter numbers, and costs disclosure status must survive the move. Thousands of firms must leave FilePro before December 2026; LawMaster firms face their own timeline. CounselOS provides assisted migration from your export — a five-business-day target to operational, trust validation, and per-firm pricing, with your principal's sign-off at each gate.

The migration path

Five business days, end to end.

A typical FilePro or LawMaster migration with CounselOS. We do the heavy lifting; your firm books a single hour to confirm the handover.

Day 1

Export & analysis

You hand us an anonymised export of matters, clients, time entries, documents, and trust ledger. We map it to CounselOS shape and produce a row-count report with any data quality issues flagged.

Day 2

Trial load + reconciliation

We load the data into your firm’s trial workspace, rebuild running trust balances, and reconcile against your last bank reconciliation. Any discrepancies are flagged for your review.

Day 3

Settings + compliance configuration

State-specific trust accounting rules applied, costs disclosure templates customised, your firm's branding loaded into the client portal, AI usage policy generated for your practice areas.

Day 4

Staff walkthrough

Sixty-minute training session for your team. Live Q&A. We record it so future hires can watch. Your principal signs off on the migration.

Day 5

Go live

Your team switches over. The old system stays read-only for reference. Monday morning starts in CounselOS like it has always been there. We are on hand for the first week.

What we migrate.

Everything that the prior system tracked, with the same numbers. We do not alter trust ledger entries; we preserve them exactly and rebuild running balances from the original transaction history.

What should firms do before switching legal software?

Use this short list with your principal and practice manager before you sign a migration statement of work.

Trust accounting is built for Australian state and territory rules. Migration validation and external accountant review are part of standard onboarding for firms moving from another platform.

Questions every principal asks first

What is legal software migration?

Legal software migration is the controlled move of matters, clients, trust history, time, and documents from one practice management platform to another. For Australian firms it must preserve trust entries, matter numbers, and costs disclosure status — not only export contacts as a CSV.

Can CounselOS help firms move from FilePro or LawMaster?

Yes. CounselOS provides assisted import from FilePro and LawMaster exports, trial load, trust reconciliation, and a validation report before go-live. Matter numbers are preserved.

What should firms consider before switching legal software?

Prioritise trust reconciliation, data processing terms, staff training, client portal communication, and a written go-live sign-off. Compare migration validation and pricing model — not marketing feature grids alone.

What happens to my running trust balances?

Trust account entries migrate as recorded. Running balances are rebuilt from that history, then reconciled against your most recent bank reconciliation. Discrepancies are flagged for principal sign-off before go-live.

How long does migration take?

We target five business days from export to operational for FilePro and LawMaster firms. Complex histories or data quality issues may extend the timeline — we agree a go-live date before you commit.

Can I trial CounselOS while still on my old platform?

Yes. Many firms run a parallel period with one practice area in CounselOS before committing the rest.

Do my matter numbers change?

No. Existing matter numbers are preserved so your team and clients see consistent references.

How do you handle privileged data?

Firm data is hosted in Australia. Sensitive matter content is encrypted at rest. Client-identifying details are protected before outside AI is used. We sign a data processing agreement before migration starts.
